Never Bean Better Day

August 22 is Never Bean Better Day in honor of a Golden Retriever named Bean.

Hailing from Morgantown, Pennsylvania, Bean is a registered therapy dog, television actor, and canine spokes dog.

This holiday is about:

“sharing joy of life with delight,” according to Michelle Drager, Never Bean Better Day spokesperson and Bean’s handler.  “This fun day recognizes the unconditional love dogs bring to human lives, and encourages all of us to live in the moment,” she explained.

Bean has been a therapy dog since the age of 2. He started making rounds as a young therapy dog for Penn State Health St. Joseph in Reading, Pennsylvania, and then spent three years serving as a comfort dog at North Valley Hospital in Whitefish, Montana.

Bean is a pretty famous pup! He’s played a dog that sensed the paranormal on Animal Planet’s television show, The Haunted. Most recently, he appeared on BCTV’s show Dog Is Family, along with the illustrator of his cartoon character, Mark Grounard from Shillington, Pennsylvania.

In this show, Barb Emmett talks about Never Been Better dog toys that teach giving with Michelle Drager and Mark Grounard and of course Bean is part of the show!

According to the AKC, Golden Retriever’s “are outgoing, trustworthy, and eager-to-please family dogs, and relatively easy to train. They take a joyous and playful approach to life and maintain this puppyish behavior into adulthood.”

No wonder they make such great therapy dogs and family pets! They interact well with both adults and children, and are the 3rd most popular dog in the United States.
